Press Release Melaka, 9th August 2009 – Crowds were thrilled as drifters pit their skills against each other in the FXOPEN Drift Challenge, held at the Melaka International Motorsports Circuit, Durian Tunggal. The inaugural round of the FXOPEN Drift Challenge sees participation of 27 drifters from all over the nation to battle for top honors and hefty prizes sponsored by FXOPEN. 16 drivers were selected for the tandem rounds by the panel of judges, which is lead by Malaysia’s drift-icon Tengku Djan Ley, after a pair of non-consecutive qualifying runs. Coming to the tandem rounds were exhilarating door-to-door drifting action, whereby drifters try their very best to eliminate their opponents in order to qualify for the next round. The 16 drifters were soon narrowed down to the final 2, where Tan Tat Wei of Team Bridgestone meets with Wong Kee Thong of Boostzone Motorsports, both in a Toyota AE86 Levin. It was then Tan Tat Wei who captured the victory when Wong Kee Thong mistakenly took a wrong line and left a gap just enough for Tan to execute a clean pass. The spar for the remaining podium finish too were thrilling as well when it went into a one-more-time between Deric Lim of Dworks and Ariff Johanis of Goodyear Racing. In the end, it was Deric who fairs better and set for an all-Toyota podium finish. Working closely with DJ Impact Event Management and Drift.com.my, FXOPEN has see great potential and interest in the drifting arena, and has promised to make a come back with a greater event in the future.
